Destination Deep Space (2019)

The Robot

Thiccums

The Islands robot for the Destination Deep Space game was named "Thiccums" because it had two massive pistons to lift the robot up onto the platforms used in the competion.  This part of the robot looked really cool when it worked, which wasn't always.

The game required the robot to pick up panels from a storage spot and attach them with Velcro straps to point on a wall.  Thiccums used a fork-lift structure on one end of the robot to pick up the panels.

The big challenge of the robot was a surprise -- we had too much traction with the tires on the carpet of the competition space and it was hard to turn.  We added tape to the wheels to reduce the traction, which helped but didn't fix everything.

The Competition

Our final match record in 2019 was 4-5-0 and we were ranked 42 out of 60 teams at the competion.

Qualification Match

We were focused on defence during this match, running interference in front of the red ball pickup zone.
