Islanders Robotics

We are the robotics team at DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis, MN. Located on Nicollet Island, near the birth place of the city, DeLaSalle provides a high quality college prep education for students from across the city and region. During the school day our students receive a strong foundation in math and science, in robotics we look to build on that. The robotics program provides real world experiences in design, manufacturing, problem solving, and working as part of a team. This robotics program provides students with a tremendous opportunity to see how the scientific process works.

Failure is Part of the Process

Failure is the only reliable tool we have to demarcate the parameters of our capacities, to test our strengths and learn what we can really do. A target you hit every time is a target set too close.

Building a robot is hard. We work with our students to learn from the experience. We push ourselves to design, fund raise, code, build, and drive better. Along the way we fail and that's okay. Ask any scientist or engineer and you'll hear how important failure is to the creative design process. Ask any student about failure and you'll hear how hard they work to never fail! Learning to learn from failure is an essential skill in STEM fields, but there are few opportunities for students to do this in the standard high school curriculum. This is what makes Robotics a great experience for students, learning from failure is central to what we do.
